How to keep Service Pack from automatically installing

I must have my computer (running on XP home edition) set to automatically
download Microsoft service packs, and don't know how to undo it.

Two weeks ago, Service Pack 2 was automatically downloaded to my computer,
and promptly screwed it up in all the ways I've been hearing about here. I'll
be happy to enumerate, if anyone wants a detailed rundown.

So, I was able to restore the system to before SP2 was installed, and
everything was fine, except that the automatic download function must have
been working - because it downloaded and installed SP2 again, and messed up
my computer.

All I want is to turn off whatever switch is making service packs download
and install automatically. I am *so* frustrated - I can't use my mail
program, and am limited to using IE, rather than something that works well.

I just want to take SP2 off my computer and prevent the computer from
re-installing it. Thanks for any help
