how to keep imap from downloading all email?

With outlook 2007, I can connect my account to the google email client, but I
can't find the place to tell outlook to "download just last 90 days" of
email, or something like that. I can tell it which folders to sync, but not
get the number of days to retrieve from. I think it's download all my email
(which is tons)
 
Not possible, Gmail/IMAP doesn't work that way.
A selective download is only offered for POP3 accounts by Gmail.
 
Put the stuff you don't want to download in another folder on the server and
do not subscribe to that IMAP folder in Outlook.
