I can not figure out how to copy just the chorus of a song which I
have in my windows media player. Is there a way that I can create a
file with just a portion of the track that I want to have available?
Depends on the nature of the file.
Is it a bitmap audio file (WAV, MP3, etc.), then open it with any wave
editor (except the useless Windows Sound Recorder), select the part you want
to keep, then Save As under a different name. (Which preserves the
original.)
You may have a wave editor installed with your sound card, burning suite or
video editing suite. Otherwise, try freeware Audacity,
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
Is it a standard MIDI fle (MID, KAR), then open it with any MIDI software
that allows editing, select the part (across the Tracks!) that you want to
keep, then Save As.
The freeware basic version of Anvil Studio may do the trick,

(Note: in MIDI "Tracks" are a matter of organizing parts of compositions,
like vocals, piano left hand, etc. Not the sequencial items on a CD.)
