Hi, there,

I have a Gigabyte 8INXP Mobo, which has 1 IDE+1 SATA+2 SCSI hard
driver, now i have a windows 2003 sever on the first SCSI HD, and I
still want to install windows XP Pro on this PC, and start them by
choosing from menu list, one thing i should mention, that the SATA HD
can not be recongized by PC (I connected this HD to onboard sata
connector ), any one can give me answer about how to do it, and which
HD is better for Windows XP installation?

Thanks.

You probably need to F6 during the install/repair of 2003 server in order to
load sata/raid drivers from floppy.
I didnt check the manual as to whether you also have to enable sata in the
bios or via a mobo jumper.

I'll pass on the dual boot aspect

Installing to an S-ATA drive has gotten more interesting. The
first step would be to read the motherbook manual. Some of the
more recent motherboards can natively detect a S-ATA drive and
this may obviate the need to use the F6 step to install drivers.
This situation could result in a bootable S-ATA HD.

OTOH, there are other motherboards that need special drivers for
S-ATA (IDE) type of hard drives and these drivers may not be on
the motherboard installation cdrom but need to be downloaded and
converted to floppy diskettes. Perhaps Microsoft will catch up to
these hardware innovations with Vista.

The giga mobo manual for this mobo states F6 to install drivers for win2003
server,
and giga has a floppy raid driver setup download on the site

Some motherboards have special settings in the BIOS that are required when
both PATA and SATA drives are used. If these settings aren't made, XP will
not see the SATA hard disk at all. My ASUS board is like this - if the
BIOS is reset to default settings, the SATA drives vanish.

Check your motherboard manual for this detail.
