How to insert text without changing cell size?

How do I, when inserting text into a table cell, stop the text when it
reaches the cell edge moving the cell along and making it longer as opposed
to jumping to the next line beneath? I have been simply using Shift+Enter but
is there a command/option that automatically continues the text to the next
line beneath and not just keep moving the cell border along?

Some help would be much appreciated!

Put spaces into the text. Otherwise, a long string of contiguous letters
*WILL* stretch the cell, and there is not a convenient way to prevent it.
