How to import emails/addresses from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2007?

I have years of important emails and contacts on my old machine running
Office 2000. When I wanted to move the .pst file to new computer running
Outlook 2000 I simply copied the file into the appropriate folder on the new
machine.

But now I need to import all these emails & addresses into a new computer
running Outlook 2007. It clearly can't be simply copied, and I have tried
importing it to no avail.

Can anyone tell me how to import emails & addresses from Outlook 2000 on one
machine, into Outlook 2007 on another machine? THANK YOU!

You open the pst, within OL2007 and copy data to the new data file - why:
2007 uses a unicode pst 2k does not. A unicode pst does not have the size
limitation, is more robust.

PS If you copied the pst to the default location and in doing so overwrote
any existing pst then likely you corrupted it, in which case you need to
start over.
It is not neccessary for the pst to be located at the 'default' location
Information on this is posted daily, together with information that
import/export is not reccomended for pst data files

Thank you very much for your reply! Fortunately, I did not copy the file ...
when I opened the folder in OL2007 it was clear to me that this would be
unwise.

When you say, " open the pst, within OL2007 and copy data to the new data
file", I am not certain what you mean. I can certainly use the menu under
"file" in OL2007 to bring up "open outlook data file" and then locate the
OL2000 pst that I copied onto the flash drive. But what I would need to do
after that in order to copy this data to the new location is not clear to me.

I would be grateful for any steps you can provide that might help me get
this done, or a link to anyplace where these steps are already provided (I
searched but didn't find anything).

This assumes OL2007 has a new blank data file configured as the default
location;

In OL2007, File>Open>Data file .......browse to its location (personally I'd
reccomend initially copying from flash drive to My Documents)
You will then have this data file & all its folders avilable in 2007
Copy data from the OL2k pst folders to appropriate folders in your 2007 data
file.
You can either copy all data or simply leave the OL2k pst open within OL
NB if you left the OL2k pst on the flash drive you would have to close this
pst within OL otherwise when you start OL it will complain about a missing
pst - assuming you dont leave the flash drive connected.
