I have been playing around with Frontpage 2000 and experimenting with it's
features. I upgraded to FrontPage 2003 and I now find I cannot insert a
interactive button into the left shared border area. I have been through all
the options and I can'rt seem to find a way of getting it to work. Can
someone please tell me how it's done. Thanks

That's because IB are not supported by Shared borders or include pages
- Use a DWT instead of a shared border

It cannot be done, except by editing the shared border file directly,
but should not be done. Interactive buttons in shared borders will
not work as you would wish them to.
See www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp/b/buttons/ for details.
By blocking the function, FrontPage is saving you a lot of pain later.
Consider using a Dynamic Web Template instead of shared borders.
