How to I get a surface chart to ignore empty cells?

How do I get a surface chart to plot empty cells in white rather than in the
colour that the chart uses to display 0 values?

IN the cell enter =NA() rather than just an empty space

Unfortunately, you cannot. XL's surface chart has very limited
formatting and other capabilities. Unlike several other chart types, a
surface chart will not ignore empty cells or #N/A values. Instead, it
will treat them as zeros.
