How to hide "workgroup" in network

Hi.

This is Chris here with a question about hiding the "Workgroup" from showing
up at all in our wins 2000 AD domain. It looks like this when we go "Entire
Network--->Microsoft Windows Network-->"
A1door
Workgroup

Is there a way to hide "Workgroup" workgroup from all users in AD or
otherwise w/o having to go and edit each machine? What would be the
simpliest way, if this can be done. The PC's in the Workgroup are windows
98's and some brother printers.

Thank you,

Hi Chris,

See if this group policy setting suits you.

User Config\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\No
Computers Near Me in My Network Places

"Removes computers in the user's workgroup and domain from lists of network
resources in Windows Explorer and My Network Places. If you enable this
setting, the system removes the Computers Near Me option and the icons
representing nearby computers from My Network Places. This setting also
removes these icons from the Map Network Drive browser. This setting does
not prevent users from connecting to computers in their workgroup or domain
by other commonly used methods, such as typing the share name in the Run
dialog box or the Map Network Drive dialog box. To remove network computers
from lists of network resources, use the No Entire Network in My Network
Places setting."

Denis,

Thanks for your post. That would have worked except I didn't explain that,
although, we don't want to see any workgroups in the list we "do" want to see
the domain, A1DOOR, in the list so how do you remove one and not the other?

Thanks be to you,

Chrisbo
