How to hide comments in a Word document without deleting them?

I'm helping someone write a thesis. I want to comment on things in the text
but show them how figures included in the thesis will appear. The comments
do not enable a correct view of the finished document. How can I just hide
them to see how it will look. If I could toggle them on and off it would be
good.

To do so without altering the layout of the document may be tricky (assuming
that tracking changes or comments do not cut it). One possibilty would be to
create a paragraph style with a hidden font attribute and apply that to your
'notes'. You could then choose to display or not (or print or not) hidden
text.

Are you using Comments (in the Reviewing toolbar/tab) to make your
comments? If so, in the same place set your View to Final (as opposed
to Final Showing Markup).
