Make sure you have all your data files and programs backed up.

Reload the OS from the CDs that came with your machine and then load
your backups. If you don't have the original CDs, you might be able
to find a copy to buy (or there might be images of them on your hard
disk).

Read the documentation that came with your machine. When you have
specific questions ask them here. Asking questions as broad as
the one above really isn't very effective because nobody here knows
what you have to work with.

When you installed Windows 2000 did you upgrade from the Windows Me
installation? If so, that may have been the source of your unhappiness, since
there is a difference in the registry structures. See this article for more
details:

Windows Me to Windows 2000 Upgrade Is Not Supported

In this case, the only way to ensure happiness with the installation would be to
perform a "clean install".

This article has more info regarding the installation techniques and steps:

You can do it, but you'll have to format your hard drive and lose all your
software installations. Back up all your data first.

I use both Windows ME and Windows 2000 (dual boot system) and I could never
go back to just Windows ME. Too buggy. Needs rebuilding every couple of
months. Windows 2000 is rock solid.

Would you like to tell us why you are so unhappy? Maybe we could help you.
Windows 2000 is truly a much better operating system.

Perhaps you'd like to consider a dual boot system? I use WME for legacy
stuff and W2K for my regular stuff. I can blow away either one and still
have a usable computer while I rebuild the blown OS.
