I bought a new hard drive and used a Window XP disk to
get it booted up and then was going to install my Windows
98 cd (my computer would not boot w/ this disk).

Well the Windows XP installed I could not get Win98 to
install. The 30 day trial period was over and I called
Microsoft to ask how to get on my computer to remove my
digital pictures, they told me to install windows again.

I had 2 installed, I still wasnt able to figure out how
to get my Win98 on and now the second one has expired.

How can I get this off my system? I have tried to format
but it says its an invalid command. I have tried to
uninstall WinXP form dos but it wouldnt let me.

Help?!? Help?!?

download and create a 98 bootdisk
If you have NOT changed to NTFS file system you should be able to start and then
use the format command to erase the contents of the partition that XP is on.

Here also is a Bootable CD with lots of emergency tools
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Remember that in order to boot off CD it should be 1st boot device listed in
BIOS and usually a key needs to be pushed at the right time on startup or else
the system will boot off the HD.

I have tried doing a boot disk and it wouldnt boot from
the floppy. I have also tried switching my bios to boot
off of the cd and it wouldnt do it either. Is there a
different boot disk that I can get?

I would take a 2nd look at that BIOS page again where it lists the start order
on mine there is a line that says "boot other device" it should be enabled
also "boot up floppy seek" should be enabled
My system is set to boot HD0 then CD then Floppy and it checks the HD
first..where it finds the OS and loads, but if it does not find an OS then it
check the CD and finally checks the floppy. It is indeed a rare occurance where a
floppy does not load unless you did not create a proper boot disk. The 2nd site
lets you create a bootable CD with lots of emergency programs.
