How to get rid of "Winlogon support files"

Hi all,

I once started building an XPe image for a harddisk.
Later on I switched to a flashdisk of 256 Mbyte. So I changed
the value for the disk size.

Now, I found that the "Winlogon support files" component
is added when the size of the disk is larger than 500 or 1000 Mbyte.
This is a conditional dependency about which a message appears
during the generation of an image.
When you check the image for dependencies, a message also
appears. If you then decide to add the component to the image,
it can no longer be removed, even if the disk size becomes smaller.

This component drags in about 13 Mbyte of oembios.* files, which
is a precious 5% of my flashdisk's size. So I'd like to get rid of
them again.

Because the "Winlogon support files" are hidden, I found no way
to get rid of it. The registry fix for decreasing the visibility didn't
work.

I found that removing oembios.bin alone works, but one gets complaints
about activation of XP after the image is redeployed to other devices.

Is there an easy way to fix this? I.e, remove the 4 oembios files
before FBA runs? (And not get any warnings in the future?)

If the runtime fits on the 256MB flash, then you should set the "Boot
partition size" value to the correct size in Target Designer, probably 256MB
would be a safe setting. I'm referring to the configurable UI found in the
root of your configuration here:
"Settings" node | "Target Designer Settings" | (click the 'show' link) |
"Boot Partition size"

This will automatically disable those file resources you're asking about.

Well I tried that, but it doesn't work. There is only a message
about a conditional dependency:

Info 107: Adjusting conditional dependency on: "Windows Logon
(Standard) [Version
5.1.2600.2180, R2890]": "Windows Logon (Standard) depends on Winlogon
Support
Files" to: Disabled

but because I have added the Winlogon Support Files component in the
past, it is not
disabled. And manually it can't be disabled either, so you're stuck....
