how to get rid of unwanted asian marks?

I have these unwanted marks that look like rectangles in my document and it
seems that it replaced pages in my document. It is not the formatting or font
and I was wondering how to change it back to words so i don't have to retype
those pages.

Check to see what 'Language' is being accessed in the formatting.
Click on the toolbar: Tools>Language>Set Language. Make sure 'English' is
selected.

I checked the language and it was english. It still had the marks.

In windows go to Start\Allprogramms\Microsoft Office\Microsoft office
tools\Microsoft office 2003 language settings and remove any extra languages
but English.
