I cannot open online word documents because I get a registration prompt for
an expired trial version of office. I want to default to the microsoft word
I already had.

Usually there is an uninstall with programs. Otherwise, got to Start,
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, find it in the list and remove it.

It you just delete it from its location in eg: Program Files, it could leave
some files behind and can cause you problems.

The newsgroup to which you posted this is for questions about Access, the
database product that's part of Office Professional, so realistically your
question is off-topic for this group. However, have you tried uninstalling
the trial version (through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel)?
