How to get rid of crosslinked files?

Hi there,

When I tried to do some partitioning (winxp sp2) with Partition Magic
8.02, it aborted for the reason that it had encountered crosslinked
files in my drive (Error 501). Subsequent attempts yielded the same
result. I then did a disk scan with the Seagate Tool and the report i
which also mentioned file problems besides other things, is appended
below.

I also googled for a solution. All I could find was the recommendation
to use chkdsk (both under run command and control panel/winxp tools)
which I did for more than twenty times but the errors are still there.
Not satisfied I did test with Easy Recovery Pro and it reported that
my drive failed its quick test because of "critical system structure
errors."

Anybody else faced this problem before? How did you solve it? Is there
a way to make chkdsk to do its job? Any commercial software out there
more suited for the purpose. I don't need to recover files, I just
want to get rid of the crosslinked files. Thank you for your help.

Hi Ted,

If your hard disk has problems you need to get it replaced under warranty,
and quickly. Seagate will arrange to swap a new disk for your old one. You
should do it soon, before your hard disk becomes unreadable. Here's where to
go for help:
http://www.seagate.com/support/service/index.html

Disks are three years old and I've never done a chkdsk until a few
days ago,. Anyway, I've already ordered a new 120 gb disk, just in
case. Strange thing is that my pc is running smoothly and pretty fast
as the partition with C drive is okay..

One problem is that my backup copies also have the file errors which I
didn't know until yesterday. I've already tried formating the problem
drive and then replacing it with the backup. I got the same error
report.

I really dread to reinstall all the software all over again. So, it'll
be great if I could delay their demise. I'll let you all know the
final fate of these two disks.
