system partition gone booot partition available how to boot?

I had two harddisks

1. 80 GB -- partion 1(active) - system (boot.ini,NTLDR...) and
another
2. 160 GB -- partion 1(active) - boot (windows,programfiles...)
and other two partitions

Now the 1st hardisk is gone.
But I have windows in the working harddisk. How can i get it to work.

Using recovery console in XP CD, i can log in to the windows
installation.

but BOOTCFG /SCAN gives this error

" Failed to successfully scan disks for Windows installations. This
error may be caused by a currept file system, which would prevent
Bootcfg from successfuly scanning. Use chkdsk to detect any disk
errors.
Note: This operation must complete successfully in order for the /add
or /rebuild commands to be utilized. "

but CHKDSK is successful for C: (Windows partition).

You don't. You reinstall Windows. You don't have to wipe anything - you
can do what might be considered a 'parallel' install - although in this
case - it's not really since most of the useful parts of your windows
installation was likely to be on the first drive you describe only as
'gone'.

Your programs will no longer work (for the most part) and all shortcuts will
be gone anyway. You'll have to reinstall all of that.

Essentially - without the proper backups and given what little you have
about your situation - the best suggestion I can think of to make is for you
to backup what you need from whatever you have left onto outside media and
install everything cleanly on the remaining equipment.

Did you follow that advice from BOOTCFG? That is pretty good advice.

What events do you reckon lead up the partition getting in this
condition and even using the RC?

Do you have a floppy drive? If yes try booting with an NT floppy boot
disk, see here for more instructions:
http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/ntboot/ Note that you *must* format the
diskette with an NT type operating system, the diskette will fail to
boot if you format it with a Windows 9x operating system.

If you can start the machine with the floppy diskette post again for
more help.
