How to get KAV on the cheap

As many of you may be aware, the product marketed as Defender Pro
Anti-Virus is not some fly-by-night software product, but in reality
is Kaspersky Anti-Virus. The product can be purchased at Wal-Mart
stores in the United States or online at their web site located at the
following url.

Now here's the good part. I bought the product in 2005 at a local
Wal-Mart store for $9.95 which gave me Kaspersky's AV and firewall
along with some other stuff I didn't need. The product came with a
license key good for a year and no requirement to register the
product. So, I used it until the license ran out.

Once it came time to re-subscribe for updates, I went to their web
site and clicked on the subscription renewal link. It then asked for
my email address for "verification". I found it a bit odd since they
never had my email address to begin with but I didn't pay any mind to
it and typed it in. I then noticed that the web site went through what
is obviously a bogus "verification" process to ensure that I had
purchased the product to begin with. They had no way of knowing if I
did have the product or not as the product was no longer on my
machine and they never had my email address to begin with.

The web site then stated that my email address was successfully
verified and allowed me to renew my license for just $14.95 USD.
Expecting to either be sent a license key or be directed to one, what
I found is that the web site provided me the download link to the
latest version of both their AV and firewall otherwise known as KAV
Personal and KAV Anti-Hacker. In addition, I was given a 2-year
license for both products. Yep, same software with the Defender Pro
name stamped on it.

So, if you want the complete KAV package on the cheap, go get it while
the getting is good.

Was this since the 15th so you got version 6? Or can you upgrade
to one of them for free? It's version 6 that I'm impressed with.

Makes sense. I can't imagine Kaspersky allowing its latest and
greatest to be marketed and sold so cheaply.

Not as soon anyway. Thats usually the way outsourcing software is.
