how to get at least 1680x1050 resolution?

i just purchased a new LCD monitor (Viewsonic VX2035wm), and i'd obviously like to use the recommended resolution setting of 1680x1050. but my settings through control panel only extend up to 1280 x 1024. is there a way to fix this without getting a new video card? if i need a new one, what's an example of one that i can get that's cheap but will get me this resolution?

i don't do any gaming at all, but i do a lot of photo editing and things like that.
