I have a Windows 2000 desktop with one drive. It has two partitions - FAT32
and NTFS. The OS is on the NTFS partition and the FAT32 has nothing. I
need to clean this drive completely.

I just bought a laptop with WinXP Pro and will not be using the desktop.
Since the OS is on the NTFS partition, how do I format it to FAT32? Windows
(98/ME) boot floppies won't work since the drive is NTFS.

Thanks,
Brett

Hi Brett,

Boot of the XP cd and follow the command prompts and it will give you the
option to format the drive as Ntfs or Fat 32

Boot the Win98 floppy, run FDISK and delete the partition, then create a
new partition, reboot from the floppy again and format.

Boot with a DOS floppy and run FDISK to delete the partition.
Or start the XP install and when you get to the section asking where to
install Delete the current NTFS partition and then exit setup.

Boot with the Floppy disk and then use FDISK to clear out existing drives.
Once finished, create your new drive setup and format.

Use a 98 Boot floppy and run FDISK (Y to 'Large disk support?')

With it Delete non-DOS partition (the NTFS) and Delete DOS Primary (the
FAT 32). Or *possibly* the FAT is a logical drive in an extended
partition, you would have to delete logical drive first, then the
Extended.

Then use it to make a new FAT 32 and reboot to format it
