How to Force Login Dialog Box when connecting to a computer?

Hi,

I am having one annoying issue. I have one computer on my home network which
acts as a server to all other computers we use throughout the house.

Now, all of the computers are configured to be in the same workgroup, and
all of them show up there. When anyone clicks on the computer name it opens
up and then users can see shared folders. One of them is called Stuff, which
is shared for USERS of this machine only. Now, when I click on it from any
machine, I get Access Denied error.

Now the real question: I think all my issues would/could be solved by
forcing a Login Dialog box when someone tries to access the computer itself.
Right now, it does not show up and people are let through to see the shared
folders (which they can't access since it is for users only.)

What group policy setting or registry key controls this value? In the
setting "Who can access this computer from network", even when I remove
Everyone, I just get access denied, no Login Box??

Please help :)

Leave everyone in the user right for access this computer from the network.
To control access based on user or group you need to be using XP Pro and
then disable simple file sharing on it. Then you can give users/groups
permissions to access the share and the user accounts MUST be using a
password. If a remote user is logged onto their computer with the same
logon/password that exists on the "server" in it's local users then the user
can be granted seamless access to shares that they have permissions to. If
the user is logged onto their computer with a user account that does not
exist on the server then they should be prompted for credentials and if they
can then authenticate to a local user account on the server they can gain
access. The user must have permissions to the share and the folder shared
via NTFS permissions. Share permissions only apply to network users while
folder/NTFS permissions apply to any access method. The links below give
more details.
