Or

Start, run, type in: cmd, hit enter. Type in: ipconfig /all , hit enter.

Running XP Home edition, is there a place to find my IP
address?

If you have manually set your IP from inside network connection and you have
a router and broadband most of the WinXP native apps will only tell the
inside IP such as: 10.0.0.* or 192.168.*.* or 172.*.*.* or what ever you
have set the to.

MyWanIP tells you your outside IP address.
MyWanIP is FREE and you can download it from any of these download sites.
(Designed for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, Windows 2000 and XP)

ftp://ftp.mywanip.com/mywanipsetup.exe
ftp://ftp2.mywanip.com/mywanipsetup.exe
ftp://ftp3.mywanip.com/mywanipsetup.exe

If you have a router why would need a program to show you your wan ip
address? Your wan ip is listed right in the routers config page, usually at
192.168.0.1

not always, linksys' default is 192.168.1.1.

Ya I know not always, but its a good place to start, or look in the router
manual. In my netgear it was 192.168.0.1, but it allows me to change it to
any subnet I want, so I did.

It's contained within the token ring. Find it before it disappears
into the ethernet.

Yea, I know, it's an old Dilbert joke, but it seemed topical at the
moment.

Who doesn't love old Dilbert jokes?
My favorite is when the boss looks on the back of the monitor for the
"firewall."

I like the one where the boss was saving money on computer
training, so he taught the class himself. He said, "Let's
get started, everybody pick up your moose."

Worth noting that if you set up Internet Connection sharing, it will
force the IP address of the connection into the local net to be
192.168.0.1

Good to know. If you use ICS can you change that in registry or somewhere or
are you stuck with 192.168.0.1?
