In Word, hit the help file on the topic of Mail Merge.

SQL Server Reporting Services blows 'word mail merge' out of the
water.

Sorry. I just reccomend that you use SSRS.

In addition to Tom's comment about Mail Merge (which works great if you have
a specified form you want to fill in with data in a specific format), you
could also consider using Automation to open Word and create a document from
scratch or from a template.

This involves a little more work than mail merge, but also gives you more
flexibility to handle unique formatting for records in your table that
require it.

I think that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life.

You don't need mail merge-- You don't need _WORD_.
You need a _REPORT_.

Do it in Access, do it in SQL Reporting Services-- do it in Crystal
Reports.

Mail merge just isn't as powerful as real physical reports.
And automation?

In most cases, I would generate a report, but the OP said he wanted to put
Access data in a Word document, not a report, so I proposed an answer to his
question.

I remember doing mail merge.. in like literally.. I _REALLY_ want to
say 1980-1986 or something like that.
My dad let me toy around with it-- he couldn't figure something out
about it.

On the first gen PS/2. And no-- not that PS2.

I think that the real world has advanced a little bit since then.

I've written hundreds of mail merge letters with Reporting Services.
I _CRINGE_ at the thought of doing it in word-- it is just an obscure
language- the mail merge tags- and I don't see the ROI.

If I wanted to learn a new language every day- without reason- then
I'd be a C# dork.

You're using Access for PAYROLL information?

Are you kidding me?

Access is impossible to correctly secure. I mean.. are you _KIDDING_
me?

Sorry that your users want it in word. I'd suggest building an Access
report; exporting it to word-- and seeing if they're ok with the
format.

Warning

Alberts' information is frequently incorrect; as are many of the other
MVPs around here.

They might sound helpful-- of course so might your heroin dealer when
you're flush with cash.

Aaron, why would you even go there???? I would suggest you back-off.

I call BS.

I mean; hes the guy that got 3 different SQL questions wrong-- in a
single thread-- and now he's stating that the difference between a
100mbit NIC and a 56kbit modem.. (which is really only 4k-- i mean
_GAG_-- he doesn't get the difference between kiloBIT and kiloBYTE..
and he's using a flawed argument about how Access doesn't work over
VPN, Wireless, WAN, etc.

Access works great over VPN, Wireless, WAN.
And he's just blatantly giving false information.

I wrote considerable WAN applications for people outside of Redmond--
to be able to use my database servers. In a CLIENT SERVER fashion.
OVER the WAN. Not through a terminal services-- But _OVER_ the
network-- how it should works.

That dork spreads false information.

Access _DOES_ work great-- over any network-- and when it crashes --
it's not the networks fault (GAG).

It's called SQL Server.

When those kids stop giving false information about SQL Server is when
I lay off.

and every other MVP on here is a complete idiot when it comes to SQL
Server.

This Chris dude today-- he's like 'oh you cant right click LINK in an
ADP to LINK a spreadsheet from an ADP.

That is just blatantly not true. It's a 'best practice' to use a UNC
path-- that's real obvious; mapped network drives are stupid.

Hummmm, sounds like you are flush with cash, even the lingo. If 1 + 1 = 2
we probably have the solution. What is funny is while you slam everyone for
not using SQL that is what is requested/preferred when helping others. For
every problem there is a solution; picking the most cost effective, easiest,
practical and non-destructive solution displays intelligence and leadership.
I suspect your solution to most world events would be to nuke them. What I
really don't understand is you have some ability to contribute real
solutions, why don't you use it. Dig down, use your brain and help the
folks with real answers. Only reason I can think of is your afraid to be
wrong or you don't really have the ability. Oh by the way, switching email
addresses every day or so really doesn't make a difference. But it does
identify you as paranoid.

There are times when using a network drive makes sense.
