However, the only way out of the CD is to esc, esc, esc, one esc for every slide. This isn't very practical or professional looking. What am I missing?

How do you end the demo cd and automatically close everything up?

It sounds as if you've saved each slide as its own presentation and
"daisy-chained" them together. This isn't a good thing to do. Consider
creating a menu slide instead to help your users get from one
presentation/topic to another.
