How to enable S.M.A.R.T. on H.D.s

I've been through this before, but forgotten the procedure. How do I
re-enable S.M.A.R.T. on my H.D.s? On one of my systems (Asus MoBo) I can do
it directly through BIOS at boot, but on my other system (Gigabyte--a
miserable board with even worse tech support) this is not an option through
BIOS. I've been through multiple newsgroups, K.B.s, and Seagate tech support
with no help yet.

Sadly, the BIOS is the only place to turn such a feature on and off. It is a
hardware setting.
 
Some Gigabyte boards require you to press a combination of keys (such as
Ctrl+F1) to access advanced settings.
Check your manual.
