How to Dual Boot Windows XP Pro on 2 Hard Disk??

V

Vanessa

Hi,

Recently I installed a second Hard Disk (SATA) and installed Windows XP Pro
to it. Right now I'm having 2 Hard Disk, 1 IDE and 1 SATA, both having
Windows in it.

When I start my PC, it straight away boot to my SATA Hard Disk (Bios Set 1st
is Hard Disk, 2nd is CD ROM, 3rd is Floopy). It doesn't allow me to select
which System I want to go into?

Does anyone know what to set in order for a menu to show up for me to select
which System I want to go into when the PC is power on?

Regards
Vanessa

What does the hidden file c:\boot.ini look like?

Look for Ranish Partition Manager, or XOSL. These will allow you to create a
boot-menu.

Although you can in principle do this with boot.ini, I find that approach
has some drawbacks.

1) Please post the contents of the boot.ini file at X:\boot.ini,
where "X" represents the letter name of the active partition
on the SATA HD. If you don't see boot.ini there, it might be
hidden. Rt-clk on the X: icon, clk Tools/Folder options/View tab,
select "Show hidden files and folders, clk OK.

2) How many IDE sockets are there on the motherboard?

3) How many SATA sockets are there on the motherboard?

If you don't want to bother with boot menus, you can go into the
BIOS and put the IDE HDs ahead of the SATA HDs in the HD boot
order to make the IDE HD boot instead of the SATA HD.

One thing you could do is boot from the Windows XP CD, and run the
recovery console. Then execute bootcfg /rebuild, and add the entry for
the Windows installation on the IDE drive.

I surfed the web and found the recovery console, but when i run it, it show
me 2 drives with Windows. However, after I set to one of the windows and
then use bootcfg, they can only detect one window. I actually load windows
reside in my IDE Hard Disk and manually edit the boot.ini and it works which
is quite troublesome.

Thanks anyway.
