I am not able to get word count icon in either View or Tools menu in my xp
window.
Please let me know how I can download this software free of cost, or is it
available in xp already

Someone may understand what you are asking for but I don't. First of all,
what program are you talking about? Define a word count icon. What do you
mean by an XP window?

You could be refering to Word Count command in tools menu in any document
view (Microsoft Word). The Word count command should be there by default. Try
if you can display your Word count Toolbar instead: Click the View menu >
Toolbars > Word count. The toolbar will float on top the document

Okay, let's guess at what you are describing. Could it be that there is
no "Word Count" submenu under the Tools menu? If so, maybe your toolbar
is corrupted. Right-click on toolbar, Customize, Toolbars panel, select
the "Menu" toolbar, click Reset. Exit and reload Word. Is Tools ->
Word Count there now?

The above was the navigation used under Word 2002. You never mentioned
WHICH version of Word you are using, and I'm just guessing that you are
asking about Word.

You have to buy MS Word, if you want it. Microsoft does not give it away.

You can NOT download Windows XP which leads me to believe you have a
pirated copy.

The instructions I provided were to navigate the Word menus which you
claimed to have followed and yet then you claim that Word is not
installed on your computer.

You never divulged in what program you were trying to find a "word
count" function. I guessed Word but you don't have that.

You don't get to download Word, either. You will need to buy Windows XP
and also buy Word (alone or as part of MS Office).
