How to do REPAIR INSTALL - Averatec 3150p laptop (no oem cd supplied)

We own a laptop with xp pro preinstalled. We just have the restore cd's
for the laptop.

Problem 1: Laptop wont boot at all due to bad file loss/corruption
(wife uninstalled many hotfixes; dont ask).

Problem 2: No OEM disk was supplied - and we MUST do a REPAIR install
(due to important data on the drive which we must try to preserve).

Problem 3: Averatec says they do NOT have OEM disks that we may buy
from them to perform the repair installation (they claim to just have
'restore cd's' - which would reformat and reinstall, resulting in total
data loss).

Where can we get an OEM XP Pro disk which will work ?

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Ah HA!
I'm not the only one this happened to. I had the exact same situation due
to a problem with the backup software which came from the CD. I spoke with
Averatec, and they sent me back to Best Buy (where I purchased it).

You may need to argue and haggle a bit with whomever you purchased it from;
they SHOULD, if they are at all respectable; supply you with the XP disk that
you require. Best Buy did, so hopefully you have the same luck as me.

Justin

What did you say to them that convinced them to (give/loan?) you a copy
of xp pro?

I bought mine from Circuity City. When I went in they told me that they
do not do software support - and do not carry the averatec line any
more. In other words, they told me I was "SOL".

Just as a sidenote: I'd NEVER again buy from:

1. Circuit City; or
2. Averatec.

Never buy a laptop WITHOUT the Operating System on CD !!

Never buy from a store/outfil which does not support it customers (are
you listening Circuit City?)

Lesson learned. 'Nuf said.
