How to disable that IE shows the "red X" on missing pictures.

We're currently trying to reduce the load on our network and terminal servers
by filtering ads at our web gateway.

The filtering works as it should, but internet explorer shows the red X to
display that there's a picture that it cannot display (missing). We would
like to disable that IE does this.

I was told that it could be done by altering the image that IE displays with
a
resource editor. In what file can I find this "X" that IE displays when it
cannot find the picture to display?, or is there an other way of disabling
the behavior that it displays an red X whenever it cannot find the picture?

I don't know the specific file and there are quite a few to look through so
I will leave the exersize for you.

There is an option to 'Show image placeholders' on the Advanced tab of
Internet Options.

I would suggest though that you use a commercial product such as Nortons,
that has productivity control built-in.

Also there are options in Group Policy (gpedit.msc) to block flash
animations which are usually the cause of a bloated network traffic. The
image placeholders are there to cater for Accessibility issues
