A red "X" appears instead of pictures

I use Windows 98. When I open a page with IE 6 not all Web site content
appears. Some Gif images or other pictures do not appear. Instead, a red
"X" appears. If I right-click on it and click «show picture», they will
then appear normally.

I could not find anything related from Microsoft Help and Support other than
this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837489/en-us , stating that
Microsoft is researching this problem...

Would anyone have any idea how to fix it?
