I was trying to wipe my computer, and reinstall the
windows xp operating system. But instead, it installed an
extra copy! Now, when windows starts up..I have 2
operating systems in which to choose from! I want to get
rid of that extra operating system, but have no idea on
how to do this! Can someone please help? Please send me
an email and feel free to ask any other information you
may need..thanks so much! (e-mail address removed)

Boot with the Windows XP CD in the drive. When it tells you to "Press any
key to boot from CD", press spacebar or some other key.

When you get to the part where it asks you which partition to install
windows to, select "delete partition"

If you just want to get rid of the bootup screen asking you which instance
of windos to boot, you could edit your BOOT.INI file to get rid of
references to the unwanted one.

Are you sure you have two installations of Windows or simply a double entry
for it in the super-hidden file boot.ini?

If you've only one copy of Windows installed, yet a double entry for it in
boot.ini, all you need do is edit out the extra entry from boot.ini. There's
a small glitch in the Windows installation routine that can cause a double
entry in boot.ini when you do a re-install clean.

Boot from XP CD and choose to delete the partition when you get to the
INSTALL spot. Then choose to create it again, format NTFS (or FAT32 if you
prefer that) and then continue with the fresh install.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
