How to delete only the unread items in my deleted items folder

I'd like to clean upp some of my deleted items. How do I delete all the
unread junk I've put in there?

View-Unread Messages? But WHY are you KEEPING stuff in the Deleted Items
folder? Do you keep stuff in your trash can, or do you throw it out with
the garbage?

I'll bite.

Why only the unread stuff?
 
Filter your view to show only unread messages, press shift + the arrow key to
highlight them all, then delete.
