How to delete file

C

Confused

I'm running XP SP2. I'm trying to load a security programme from an
installation disc but get a message saying that an incompatible programme has
been detected, 'CA eTrust Antivirus'. I have no idea where the folder has
come from as I can't remember downloading it and it is dated 2002. I've
tracked it down to the Program Files and there is a folder which opens to
give one called 'Shared Components' that opens to one called CA_LIC that
opens to reveal about 18 files. Trouble is that I can't delete some of them -
in particular one called lic98.dll. I get an error message ' Access is
denied. Make sure that the disk is not full or write protected and that the
file is not currently in use'. Any ideas how to get rid of it? I'm not very
techy.

This will probably do it. Free

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html

MoveOnBoot allows you to copy, move or delete files on the next system
boot. This can come handy if you need to replace or delete files that
are locked by other applications, loaded into memory or cannot be
changed until next system boot.

Is 'CA eTrust Antivirus' listed in Add/Remove Programs?

What "security programme" are you attempting to install?

No - it isn't in add/remove programs. I tried using the suggestion given to
my question by Wally (using http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html)
which appeared to remove the files after I had rebooted as instructed. But
the security program still won't load as it says it has still found the
incompatible files. I have done a search of my system and now cannot locate
them so I think the problem is even harder to tackle. I'm trying to load
McAfee security which has been supplied on a CD as part of the package I got
when I moved my ISP to O2. I've emailed CA but they haven't replied and
McAfee can't help and just say it is a third party program that is causing
the problem. Maybe I should do a system restore to at least get the files
back where I can see them? If you have any ideas , be very grateful!
