How to create plugins?

Greetings,

I have looked high and low and I can't find any information on how to create
browser plugins in C.
I'd like to find a complete reference manual and a tutorial with some simple
examples. Hopefully
it will also tell how to auto-load the plugin as Acrobat reader does.

I'm also interested in how to do this with Netscape/Mozilla. I understand
that its done differently
with those browsers.
