how to copy clip from dvd

I have copyright permission to copy clips from an existing DVD into a movie
maker presentation for a history project. But I can't figure out how to
import the clip from the D drive to my project. This is my first time using
movie maker.

Assuming that your D-drive is capable of playing DVD's then you may need to
download software to recognise the file structure on the DVD, find and
separate the 'clip' you're after, and then convert/export it to suit MM2
import/acquire formats.

That's exactly right. You need a DVD ripping program.
Problem is if it is copy-protected material it will not work even if you
have been given "permission" to use it the softwae doesn't know that.
