How to configure so that a CF is detected as Secondary or Primary MASTER IDE?

My objective is to install Win XPE in a CF that will be booted on a
device. But in order to do that, I need to configure so that the BIOS
of the the target device detect the CF as a MASTER (either it is
Primary or Secondary). My problem is that the BIOS of the device target
detect it as a Secondary SLAVE. I don't know how and where I should
configure that. I wanted to use atcfwchg to change something about it,
but each time I use it I receive the "fail (error #20)" error message.
I read somewhere that the program works when the CF is detected as a
MASTER, which is my objective from the beginning...

To sum up everything, I think I have to configure somehow the CF to IDE
Adaptor in order to resolve my problem. I'm still searching for that,
but if someone can tell me some clues about that, it would be great
help.

Generally this will be down to a jumper setting on the CF itself, or on
the adaptor...

Thanks for the tips... Now, I'm trying to find if some documentations
about my device tell something about this... I'm working on a PCM-9579
by the way... If someone know how to configure its SSD so that the CF
is detected as a MASTER on it, please inform me, it would be very nice
( sorry, it's not really a CF-IDE adaptator, it's included on the
card... I made a mistake describing my problem)...

Aha! This? http://www.emacinc.com/sbc_pc_compatible/pcm_9579.htm
It is probably the case that the way the board is set up, the cf socket
is secondary slave and that's that.
I assume you're trying to mark it non-removable? If that's the sandisk
tool, they tend to be quite helpful if you're having problems, at least,
they were back when I was...

Thanks again for those information Heidi Linda... Now, I would like to
know what is required to install Win XPE on a Compact Flash. I mean I
would like to know if there is some special requirement I don't know...
My CF is detected as a Slave Secondary by the PCM-9579, I activated the
partition on te CF with BOOTPREP.EXE. And I put the files and
directories generated by Target Designer by using the DEVICES.PQM
(generated by ta.exe used on the target device in a DOS environment).
The BIOS seems to boot the Compact Flash Correctly but Win XPE don't
seem to boot, leaving the error message "Disk error Press any key to
restart".

I just want to know if I missed some requirements, such as CF detected
as a Master in order to boot Win XPE or anything else like that...
Well, it would really be nice if someone can answer me...

We have used CF as the boot device for XPE. The flash resides on the
secondary IDE bus on the motherboard and there is a jumper on the
motherboard that allows us to specify whether it is master or slave.

We set it to master. But - I tested having the CF be a slave (with no
master) and the system still booted normally. I only performed this
once though.

Make sure your BIOS is set up to boot from the correct device. HDD-0 or
HDD-1 - whichever your BIOS is seeing the secondary IDE as.

Also, make sure your boot.ini file (that you will copy to the CF after
making the pre-FBA image) is correct - I can't tell you what the right
settings are for your system, but it's a direction for you to look.

I hope that's a start!
