How to clean permanently unwanted files?

M

marentes

I installed MS AntiSpyware and have conducted many scans
to clean my computer. I then proceed to fix the problem
and get rid of unwanted or suspicious programs, but they
continue to appear. How can I get rid, permanently of
disruptive spyware, worms, virus and unwanted files?
Thanks for any recomendations to do it.

On the scan page, choose scan options > full system and check the boxes
below and then click "Run Scan Now".

We say this a lot here--but let me speak to my experience today with a
reasonably well-infested machine.

It had a long list--perhaps 10 different items. I cleaned them, in normal
mode, and they all appeared to be cleaned successfully. However, new
symptoms kept appearing.

I then restarted the machine in safe mode, and a scan found an additional
two items not found before, and cleaned them.

Even after that cleaning, I still got popups, neatly labled either "ceres"
or "aurora."

I've written other messages about cleaning that final critter, so I won't
repeat it--Microsoft Antispyware didn't see it at all, except that portions
of it were visible to the System Explorers--but the main portion that
regenerated the other pieces was not. For that I needed an antivirus
application to identify the executable, and a boot to a maintenance OS--in
this case the Recovery Console--to actually remove it.

So--try safe mode first--and if you still get things, come back!
