How to Change Username

I want to be able to change my username in Documents and Settings and
have the new username use all of the things in my original username. I
suppose I could create a new user with name I want and then copy the
contents of my original username folder to that of the new user name and
then delete the original one. Will this work or is there a better way?

Yes, Create the Username you want. Login to that account one time
to overlay the Default User template. Then log in to a tertiary account
(3rd, neither original or new) and copy the old profile to the new one.
Make sure to add the New User name to the "Allowed to Use" option
box after you do the Profile copy operation.

It went without a hitch other than I couldn't find the "Allowed to Use"
option box you mentioned. Without it, things appear to be just fine.

Should I worry?
