hi,

a computer was setup with a user account but not made the default
logon profile, it keeps booting up to the administrator profile, how
do I change it so the user profile is the default on bootup?

thanks,
niteowl

there is no mention of a simple way to change the default logon...

it would seem to me that with more than one profile, there would be a
simple "Click here to make this profile the default logon".. ??????

I only have one admin acct on my computer, this info is for a friend
who has 3 accts on his computer, the admin that is created on install,
2 other admin accts he created, and the guest profile... he just
wants to change which admin acct the computer boots up to....

is that possible with something simple? He could find no option to do
that.

thanks,
niteowl

here's the note from my friend when asked how many accts he had on his
computer:

three, Administrator, his account, and his wife's account, but it
defaults to the administrator instead of his at logon time....

this is what he wants to change.

thanks,
niteowl

1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer" check box, then click Apply.
4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password
box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK
to close the User Accounts window.

Thanks, this appears to have given him what he needs...

I saw these instructions somewhere else a while back, but didn't think
it applied... thanks for sticking with me on this...

Hi Niteowl,

Just as our MVP said, you can try the suggestions he has mentioned by using
userpasswords2 command to disable automatical logon.

For your reference, there is a registry key related to administrator logon
automatically as following:

Use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to change your logon information:

1. Click Start, click Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks),
and then click OK to start Registry Editor.

2. Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3. Find and highlight the following key AutoAdminLogon and change the value
to 0

If the value is 1, it causes Windows XP to automatically log into the
administrators account.

4. Close regedit

5. Restart the computer to confirm the changes have taken effect.

Hope that helps. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let
me know. I'm glad to help you.

Thanks & Regards
