I'm trying to capture audio from the line-in on a sound card. when i put a
signal on the line-in i get sound through the speakers but when i capture
(using roxio 7 and windows sound recorder) i get silence in the captured
sound file. I've tried this on two computers with the same results. the mic
input can be captured but it's mono. the roxio documentation indicates that
the line-in audio can be captured. anyone know why this doesn't work?
thanks.

Presuming Windows OS, you need to open the WIndows (or the
sound card manufacturer's software) mixer to adjust the
recording line selection and it's mute/unmute statis.

If you dont' use the sound card manufacturer's software then
open up Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimeter, then
checkmark the "Show volume control on taskbar" button. That
is, if you don't already have the speaker icon in your
taskbar.

What sound card do you have?
Creative cards come with their own sound recorder that has a,"Mixed
Mode" recording option e.g will record anything going through the card
depending on the options you choose.Winow's in built mixer/sound
system is not capable of this usually so check the software that came
with the card.If not then,"Total Recorder" can do the job,

Adjust the RECORDING mixer. It's a separate mixer.
