How to cancel speed scrolling feature.

When I try to highlight multiple paragraphs in order to move text AND I get
to the bottom or top of a viewable page ... the scrolling feature takes off
--- speeding to the end or the beginning for the document highlighting all
the way.

How can I adjust this feature?

Click at one end of the desired selection; drag the slider on the vertical
scroll bar to bring the other end in view; Shift+click there.
