how to block outgoing long distance calls

How do I prevent my computer from making long distance
calls and running up my phone bill without my Knowledge?
It seems you can inadvertantly download a foreign dialer
that makes a call to America Samoa or something without
you knowing what's happening. These calls are scams to
run up huge bills to benefit the number being called. Do
I have to get the phone co. to give me another line to use
and have them block long distance service? Or, can I save
money by keeping one line and preventing these calls
myself? Thanks, Mike.
 
Hi Mike,

Computers don't dial random numbers by themselves. Someone has to set it up
for this. You should check your PC for viruses! Uninstall any software that
you might not need. Remove AdWare and SpyWare software from your PC. For
this you can use AdAware from Lavasoft. You can download it for free from
www.lavasoftusa.com.
