setup outlook 2000 for contact long distance dialing

I have configured Outlook 2000 contact Dialing Properties for my telephone
credit card, no problem, very straight forward!!! My problem is that the
Outlook dialer calls the phone number on the contact without preceding it
with the long distance credit card information??? I have no problem with
local calls.

There is no such thing as an Outlook dialer. Outlook uses the Windows
dialer. You have an operating system question about dialing rules, not an
Outlook question. Just make sure you have stored your phone numbers in
canonical format so your dialing rules will be processed.

Thanks Russ, I was unaware of canonical format, once I made that change to
the contact’s properties, everything worked great. For those of you who may
not know canonical format, it is +Country code (area code) phone number,
example:
+1 (305) 954-3345

correctly configure the dialing rules in Control Panel, Outlook will
properly format the number for you.

I found no place to specify canonical format in telephone and modem in the
control panel. Where would I do that?

New Call > Dialing options > select the option to add the country code to

local numbers.

OK, I am from Australia. I do not use my PC to dial out anywhere. I have a
telephone for that (old technology I admit, but still effective Down Here).
I have tried over and over again to set dialling rules in Control Panel only
because Outlook 2007 is making me do it before I can enter a telephone number
for a new contact. Only problem is that it will not accept any of the
settings I put in there and just keeps resetting the form. As a result I
cannot enter any contacts into Outlook... Why?? Never had trouble with any
previous operating system for this very basic task.

Answered in your other post. It does not matter whether you use dialing or
not. Outlook needs the information so it knows how to mask your phone
numbers. It has always been this way.
