how to automatically terminate an open session

Let me start by saying that I am no expert with windows.

Is there a way to terminate a logon (open) session by a user automatically
say at a certain time.

Try using Scheduled Tasks and Shutdown.exe with the -L switch. Open a
command prompt and issue shutdown /? to see usage.
