My sony Vaio V505 laptop recently got start up error.
First time start, it gives blue screen with stop error
stop 0x0000007F(0x00000008, 0x80042000,0x00000000,0x00000000).

After shut down computer, start again will show the safe mode screen.

I looked up on the web, looks like need to a diagnostic test. I try to
use MS Online Crash Test.
Since the laptop does not have floppy drive, I made a CD try to lauch
using CD. But I just couldn't
enter BIOS. I tried F2, F8, F10 etc. But it just does not enter BIOS.

Recently, I carried the laptop for travelling. I suspect it might get
some vibration that may cause
hardware damage. But I am not sure also. So it is important to run some
kind of diagnostic test.

Any help is appreciated!

Mark,

you need to access (hit the "bios key") way before you get to the
safe-mode-boot-menu

start your computer
immediately hit your "bios key"

Edwin.

Check the laptop's manual for the correct key to enter the BIOS setup. It
should be displayed at power up, which is often the only time you can enter
the BIOS; many systems don't allow access to it from restarts.

If that key does not allow you to enter the BIOS, reset it. Unplug the
power adapter, remove the battery, press and hold the power switch for at
least 30 seconds. Now put the battery back in, plug the adapter back in,
and power on, and press the BIOS access key again. You should get into the
BIOS and the date should be wrong (not the current date).

If that doesn't work, contact Sony service as it's a hardware issue.

How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS
before Windows even starts to boot. One common way is to press the Del key
when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right for your computer.
Watch the screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a message
there telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation or
check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.
