How see History Folder entries in 'Save As'?

BRIEFLY ... How can I get the History entries to show in the History
folder option in 'Save As' ?

--------

I used TweakUI to make the History folder one of the entries in the
Places Bar (displayed on the left side of the 'Save As' window.)

THE PROBLEM
When I save a document and select History in the 'Save As' window, no
entries appear in the main 'Save As' window.

Not even if I select all files in the drop-down "File Types".

If I am in IE and use "File | Save As' then the History folder is
also empty.

-------

WHAT I HAVE CHECKED

I run XP Pro/SP2. My TweakUI is the XP version: 2.10.0.0 for SP1 and
higher.

I know there are entries in the History folder because I can see them
in %PROFILE%\Local Settings\History
and they also appear in the History option in Internet Explorer and
Windows Explorer.

The registry setting for the History folder has decimal 8 (is this
right?) in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\comdlg32\PlacesBar\\Place1

----------------------- END ---------------------------

Why on earth are you trying to save documents in
%userprofile%\Local Settings\History folder?

For one thing Windows cleans out this folder once in a while, so you are apt
to lose anything that you save there.

Save your documents in My Documents.

Somw of the links here can take me more quickly to the folders I want
to be in.

This is not happening as I am checking the History folder for its
contents immediately after I do a SAVE AS.
Save your documents in My Documents.

In fact, I prefer to use the D drive.

Well check it in 999 days.

Hi Wes, I guess there will always be some trimming but there is no
wholesale cleaning out of the whole folder (such as on exit of XP),

You can't. History is a special folder, e.g. controlled by a Desktop.ini
and the data you see in its display is read from its History.IE5\index.dat file.

That is weird then because as I mentioed, good old TweakUI allows you
to make the History folder one of the entries in the Places Bar (left
of the 'Save As' window.)

I guess that TweakUI assumes that some translation is made from the
special format the history data is stored in into the readable format
which IE can see it.

But how do I use it?

If you just want to stuff arbitrary files in the History *directory*
you probably can. Just don't expect them to show up when
you open the History folder (because of its desktop.ini file.)
