How open password-protected Word 2003 documents

I tried to open some old Word 2003 documents but I've forgotten the
passwords.

Is there a way to open the documents? (Preferably free.)

If you are referring to a protected form with a password, then you could just insert such a file into a new, blank document; the password will be bypassed and you'll get a fully editable file.

However, if you are referring to a document which requires a password to open (this is what I think you are referring to!), then the task will be more difficult. You can search the Internet for assistance, but be careful. As someone said, I wouldn't want to give my credit card number to someone who cracks passwords for a living...
