How not delete files such as Internet Explorer 8 Temporary files?

JC

Hi! I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

I need to avoid an user can delete files, in same way, Internet Explorer 8
is doing.

I mean: when I am using internet´s properties and use the "Delete browsing
history" dialog box, if I check "Preserve favorites website data" (see image
here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm ), all cookies (*.txt
files) will be keep if sites related are mentioned in my "favorites" folder.
So, even if I click DELETE, such files will never be deleted!

How can I create the same possibility to my files that I don´t want an user
can delete?
Other idea could be to warn user (when he click DELETE) that, such files,
can´t be deleted because are very important files! HOW TO DO IT?

You can lock folders or use encryption.

Hi PA Bear and Johnw!
My question was about if Windows XP has that funcionality (or similar) such
as happens with Internet Explorer 8.
I mean... without change and create different user accounts. And, also,
without other software. Only using Windows XP.
The idea is an user be able to see that files or also, folders, but not be
able to delete. Maybe.... using regedit.exe...?

See my first reply to your thread. Installing IE8 won't make any
difference. If you don't want anyone to be able to delete anything,
password-protect your User Account and don't let anyone else use it or know
the password.

Note that there are certain protected System files which either cannot be
deleted or will be replaced automatically on reboot (if someone managed to
delete them somehow). The contents of your Temporary Internet Files and
History folders are not protected files.
