How Much Money Is Enough?

It was reported last week that Bill Gates is now worth 46 BILLION
dollars, which raises the question, how much money is enough? How much
does he need, to be "happy"?

The writer of a recent virus put it correctly when he taunted, "Bill
Gates: Why is this possible? Stop making money and fix your software".

How far would a billion or so dollars go towards fixing shoddy M$
software and tracking malicious hackers and virus writers? Quite a ways,
huh? Wouldn't a worth of $45 billion be just as good as $46 billion to
Gates?

Microsoft has yet to master basic HTML, yet they keep adding all sorts
of advanced junk to things like their online networks like their MSN
groups, which barely work now as it is. They need to stop adding to it,
digress (a whole lot), and learn to make the basics work before
advancing further, because, all they are doing now, it making people
hate MS more than they already do.

MS is a corporation that has grown too big for it's own good; too big
for anyone's good. They need to be dissolved and disbanded like the over
sized phone monopolies were years ago. Yet, they keep going and going,
growing and growing, all the while, Gates couldn't care less about the
problems they are CAUSING the nation and the world.

For years, people have laughed at *me* for using my old, reliable
Netscape Navigator, but now, seeing all those foolish enough to trust MS
Internet Explorer, with it's inherent security flaws, being hit hard by
the SWEN worm, I get to laugh for a change. I find it hard to believe
that they pay their "programmers", when they should actually be
prosecuted.

So, just how much money is enough to satisfy Bill Gates? When will he
accumulate enough to finally see clear to un-ass a few billion to
address the problems that he and his company have caused? What will it
take to get his head out of his financial rectum?

MS has already lost virtually all public trust and respect, and that was
before all these SWEN worms unleashed several billion fake "MS Security
Patches" on the net. One would think that, since they bear the MS name,
someone like Gates would care about saving what's left of the corporate
image, not letting it degrade further.

Just how far would a billion go? How many (real) security specialists,
hackers, crackers, virus writers, investigators, etc., could a billion
dollars hire (to address the problems)? Most people can't even conceive
of the scope and power that even a single billion could have. Not to
mention the prosperity it would bring and the poverty it would
alleviate. One could assemble quite a team of specialists with only one
billion dollars, couldn't they? (And, just think what $5 billion could
do!) Does he really *need* $46 billion?

So, WHY is Bill Gates sitting on his ass, twiddling his thumbs, laughing
all the way to the bank? These problems are well within his financial
grasp to address, that's for certain. Just how much money is enough?

Joseph, I never claimed to be a software writer, nor did I claim it was easy.
But, if it is so easy for them to find holes in, apparently it's easier than you
think. If hackers can so easily find holes, why can't "programmers"?
It is not as easy as you think. If you don't believe it, give it a try.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about.

With as little programming as I had done, believe me, even a simple job
can have many many unexpected problems. The more complex the system the
greater the possibilities.
