How many of you guys are in bed with Bill Gates?

For the past 2 months all I continue to see here are people expressing their
frustration at being abandoned by Microsoft. - I have literally spent a
couple thousand dollars on Microsoft products, and always there's something
that they just don't get right. Check out Windows Annoyances
(www.annoyances.org) and you'll see posts that date back over a decade.

I've been a FrontPage user for 6 websites that I volunteer to maintain. Now
with Vista everything's going down the crapper. With Bill Gates being the
richest guy on the whole planet I don't buy the line that Microsoft just
doesn't have the manpower to work out a fix for FrontPage.

On top of all that are the Bill Gates lovers in these forums that try
telling me I have to start learning Expression Web. Hey, I work for a living
and have precious little time to learn a whole new system. Don't get me
wrong, I don't mind learning new programs, but to suddenly find that I can't
use FrontPage is a slap in the face. It's gonna take me 6 months to learn all
the in's and out's of Expression Web.

Thanks Microsoft!

Oh, and I do wonder how many of you Microsoft sycophants have posters of
Bill Gates hanging over your beds.

No one is forcing you to upgrade or learn anything new...you can still use
FP for several years.

BTW...it's John Galt's fault not Bill Gates.

FP2003 should work with Vista...except for fp extensions wont.

So I haven't installed Vista. I wonder when it will be safe to do so

Dunno. In my younger daze I usta be the first one on the block to install
new software, OSes,...now I wait read the ngs for a few months till it looks
like issues thin down.

Vista is still installed on the corner of my desk for now.

Microsoft is in business for the exact same reason that you go to work every
day: to make money. That is what business is all about. As a consumer, you
have the freedom to either use their products, someone else's products, or
create your own. The fact that Microsoft has decided to make this change in
their product line is not a matter of morality; it is a business decision.
Microsoft will either profit or lose from the business decisions they make.
You will either profit or lose from the decisions you make.

You are not alone in your frustration. We all have to keep up with
increasingly-rapidly-changing technology, and speaking for myself alone, I
have precious little free time these days, working as hard as I can to keep
up. I have even taken to sleeping less, and have given up almost all of my
hobbies and pasttimes, hoping that someday I will have time for such things
again. However, the bottom line is, you either keep up, or you find another
line of work. We all have the freedom to make these decisions.

Note that none of this is Bill Gates' doing. It is simply the way things
are. How anyone feels about Bill Gates (and everybody feels differently) is
simply a subjective experience. Personally, I admire him for his particular
gifts. He is not the richest man in the world by accident. I can learn much
by studying his methodology. But this does not mean that I put him on a
pedestal, or think more highly of him as a person than anyone else. In fact,
I have no idea what sort of person he is. But his business methods are
successful, and one can learn to be successful at anything from anyone that
is successful at anything.

All that said, you have my sympathy for your trouble. As I said, we all have
trouble dealing with the dizzying advance of technology worldwide. But
complaining doesn't accomplish much (might make you feel better
temporarily), and blaming accomplishes nothing, and is therefore
counter-productive. At some point, you must simply make decisions and accept
the consequences, good or bad, of those decisions.

I can go back to XP any time I want. In fact, I can dump Windows and install
Linux (shudder) if I wish. Unless Vista magically changes your hardware, you
can install any operating system you wish.

Who forced anyone to install Vista? Before installing any new OS you should
always check and see if there are any compatibility issues with your
hardware, device drivers, or software.

Virtual PC is a free utility which will allow you to install
other OSs onto your machine. So you can run all of your
favorite OSs and other software on your Vista or XP machine.

#2 Why is it that MS is always the bad guy when something
from half a decade ago doesn't work on a brand new OS? You
don't hear people crying that the fancy rims that came on
their last car don't fin't their new car
